Large Draco (Sean Connery) maquette and wing from Rob Cohen’s fantasy adventure film Dragonheart. Phil Tippett is credited as Designer: Dragon Designs on this title. Tippett Studio produced various maquettes and models to aid animators with the 3-D rendering of the creature.Tippett was nominated for Best Visual Effects for his work on this film at the 69th Academy Awards^®.

The maquette is made of biscuit foam with a thin resin outer layer and is mounted to a small wooden blocking. The piece is crafted with intricate textures and paint details on the left side and has a smooth surface and a flat brown finish along the right. A series of barbs protrude along the spine and the wing masts remain unfinished on the back. The wing is included separately and is sculpted from foam with a hardened exterior with intricate textured details.

The maquette shows some wear due to age and use such as one of the toes being partially broken away from the right foot along with several of the talons. Noting the aforementioned wear, the lot remains in overall good condition. Dimensions (body): 63” x 26 ½” x 18” (160 cm x 67 cm x 46 cm); dimensions (wing): 54” x 21” x 4” (137 cm x 53 cm x 10 cm)
