Paramount, 1946

This Italian poster is one of only two known surviving copies. Posters from the post-war period are scarce due to paper shortages in Italy. Translated, its title reads "The Flame of Sin," and its fiery background suggests the intensity of the deadly affair at the heart of this classic.

This poster has been linen backed, with the linen trimmed to the edge of the border. Now restored are border pinholes and fold wear, especially in the left lower vertical and horizontal folds. There has been sporadic airbrushing work within the red background, upper vertical fold, and center point fold in the black area. There is slight post-restoration wrinkling on the right border.

Co-written by Raymond Chandler with director Billy Wilder, this adaptation of the James M. Cain novella features one of Barbara Stanwyck's most outstanding performances as a woman who plots the murder of her husband to claim accident insurance.
