An SFX simulation serum injector from the production of Neil Burger’s 2014 adaptation of Veronica Roth’s YA hit, Divergent.

In a world where humanity is divided by factions based on virtues, Tris (Shailene Woodley) learns she is a Divergent, and thus transcends these factions. This makes her a target, and she learns of a plot by some of the factions to overthrow the others.

This serum injector and others like it were made for the production and are used to send people into a simulated world where they learn to face up to their biggest fears. Made of metal and glass, the injector is designed so that the needle retracts when it encounters a hard surface, giving the appearance of going into the skin of the actor. The plunger is then depressed to ‘inject’ the serum. Most of the serum that was once in the piece has since been removed, although a couple of drops still remain.

The injector shows some minor wear from production use, including some scuffs and scratches, but remains in an otherwise excellent condition.
