John McClane's (Bruce Willis) special effects knife with Simon Gruber's (Jeremy Irons) "Simon Says" police call box from John McTiernan's Die Hard with a Vengeance. After Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson) denied knowing McClane, a Harlem local threw his knife into the inflammatory sign that McClane was forced to wear. Later, Carver and McClane searched the New York subway for a bomb which Simon - the brother of Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) - had disguised as a police call box.
This lot consists of a knife with its handle painted black and retractable metal blade spring-loaded for special effects shots, as well as a cast resin police call box with a hard plastic latch painted yellow and black. The knife originated from a Sotheby's Beverly Hills auction held May 1997, while the box originated from Cinergi Pictures. The box is intentionally distressed by production to appear well-used. Both pieces were previously displayed at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Las Vegas Rooms 3797 (knife) and 3897 (box). The knife's retractable spring is currently nonfunctional, while it and the police box exhibit chipping paint and nicks throughout. Dimensions: (largest) 13.5" x 9" x 6" (34.5 cm x 23 cm x 15.25 cm)
Contains mechanical components; see notice in the Buyer's Guide.
