John McClane's (Bruce Willis) Zippo lighter from Renny Harlin's Die Hard 2. In addition to lighting his cigarettes, McClane used his Zippo to light two torches that he used to try to guide Windsor 114 to a safe landing, and later, to ignite the fuel leaking from the escaping terrorists' plane, which caused it to explode.
Upon release, Die Hard 2 became the largest pre-opening film based on box-office gross over six years before the release of Roland Emmerich's Independence Day. Though greeted with mixed reviews initially, it has since been reconsidered as a modern classic and one of the best action films of 1990.
Originating from the personal collection of property master Mike Papac, this lot consists of a metal horizontal brushed chrome Zippo lighter, a brand classic since 1933. The lighter features a windproof guard around the wick and a stagnant flint possibly rusted in place from age. This lighter exhibits grime on the exterior. Dimensions: 5.75 cm x 4 cm x 1.5 cm (2.25" x 1.5" x 0.5")
Contains mechanical components; see notice in the Terms and Conditions.
Estimate: £4,000 - 8,000 Ω
Mike Papac is among Hollywood's most respected armourers. Active in the film industry since the late 1970s, he served as weapons specialist on action classics including Lethal Weapon and Die Hard, and as property gun master for Predator - all within an 18-month span. By the early 1990s, Papac had become a trusted resource for leading directors such as Tony Scott, Renny Harlin, and Richard Donner, collaborating throughout the decade with stars including Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. His career has encompassed work as prop master and armourer on some of cinema's most successful franchises, from Iron Man and Man of Steel to acclaimed action comedies like Three Kings and Red. Original hero pieces from the Die Hard films are exceptionally rare, and Propstore is proud to present these examples from Mike Papac's personal collection - offered to the public for the first time.
