A collection of unused aged prosthetic appliances created by renowned makeup artist Dick Smith. Old age prosthetic appliances like these were possibly related to Tony Scott's The Hunger (1983), or another film Smith worked on that featured old age makeup, such as Arthur Penn's Little Big Man (1970) or Milos Forman's Amadeus (1984).
Over the course of his five-decade-plus career, Smith received two Academy Awards®, including an Honorary Academy Award® for "his unparalleled mastery of texture, shade, form and illusion" in makeup artistry; the only such award to be given for an entire body of makeup work, rather than a specific project. He also received four Emmy Award® nominations, winning one for the CBS special Mark Twain Tonight! Additionally, Smith received a Lifetime Achievement Award® from the Makeup & Hair Stylists Guild for his contributions to the art of makeup.
This lot originates from the collection of Dick Smith. It consists of two bald caps, one foam latex face appliance, one foam latex neck appliance, and seven smaller foam latex appliances. Also included is a bag of cotton. These appliances show evidence of wear consistent with handling and age. Dimensions: (approx.) 10" x 10" x 4" (25.5 cm x 25.5 cm x 10.25 cm)
