Seven prints of design artwork - two of which feature hand-illustrated touch-ups - for racing ensembles from the production of Tony Scott's Days of Thunder. In the film, racer Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) donned ensembles corresponding to the sponsors of the vehicles he drove against rival Russ Wheeler (Cary Elwes) for Chevrolet dealership tycoon Tim Daland (Randy Quaid).
Trickle, Wheeler, and their fellow racers' ensembles were created by Susan Becker, the acclaimed costume designer for such classic films as Vision Quest, The Lost Boys, and True Romance. Days of Thunder's massive cultural success ultimately led to a real-world racing sponsorship by Mello Yello, one of the companies whose logo appeared on Trickle's racing ensembles.
This set of printed artworks originates from Planet Hollywood. The artworks depict front and back views of Trickle's "City Chevrolet," "Mello Yello," and "Superflo Motor Oils" racing jackets, Wheeler's "Hardee's" jacket, and a "City Chevrolet" racing team member's ensemble. One artwork of Trickle's "City Chevrolet" jacket and the artwork of the team member's ensemble both feature touch-ups hand-colored in mixed media, while several are printed with annotations regarding design elements, such as "Lumina" for the City Chevrolet jacket and "Stand Collar" and "No Piping" for the Superflo jacket.
