An oversized model miniature of the CIA plane destroyed by Bane (Tom Hardy) from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. After infiltrating a CIA plane to capture Doctor Leonid Pavel (Alon Aboutboul), former League of Shadows member Bane had four of his mercenaries destroy it midair from the exterior, breaking the plane into pieces. As the plane came apart, Bane orchestrated a body swap for Pavel to stage the physicist's death and, as a show of his authority, had one man stay behind to die for the accident's credibility. This first scene of Bane established the absolute power and control he had over his followers, as well as the fanaticism and loyalty they gave to him.
This landmark sequence was achieved with a combination of live-action stunt photography, visual effects, and practical SFX using model miniatures. In addition to a multitude of prestigious awards, The Dark Knight Rises won a Taurus World Stunt Award® for the stunt work performed during the captivating plane sequence, while stuntmen David Garrick, Neil Finnighan, David Ruffell, and Steven P. Park received Taurus World Stunt Awards® for their performances.
Created by New Deal Studios, this almost 11' Embraer EMB 110P1 Bandeirante plane model miniature is made of fiberglass and painted gray with plexiglass windows, a wood- and metal-enforced interior with cable wires, and vinyl stickers. The cockpit of the plane features two dolls dressed in pilot's clothing. This model miniature is broken into 12 pieces with a collection of 21 broken pieces and eight black taped foam "duffle bags" with nylon straps. The plane exhibits intentional breakage by production and the cable wiring is nonfunctional. Dimensions: (total) 130" x 124" x 29" (330.25 cm x 315 cm x 73.75 cm)
