A Bane (Tom Hardy) mask from the promotion of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. In the film, legendary League of Shadows supervillain Bane donned his signature mask - a specialized device designed to dispense pain relief - while terrorizing Gotham City after he was savagely beaten by his fellow inmates for protecting Talia al Ghul (Joey King).
Bane's mask was designed to provide a sleek profile in contrast to Batman's (Christian Bale) signature cowl, and was inspired by the snarling maws of wild animals, which added to its menacing appearance. Costume effects supervisor Graham Churchyard created a three-dimensional model of actor Hardy's face to design Bane's mask as seen onscreen.
Following filming, Warner Bros. used the original production molds to produce this mask as the grand prize in a sweepstakes giveaway to promote the film's theatrical release. This mask was originally sold by the winner of that sweepstakes.
Constructed from urethane and vinyl, the mask comes dressed with fabric, nylon webbing, and mesh. It features intricate detailing around the front simulating a respirator and various connected tubing to funnel Bane's gas. The mask comes mounted to a polyfoam lifecast of Hardy and does not open, unlike the masks used for filming. It exhibits pitting in its urethane and chipped paint from handling.
