“Now they will know why they are afraid of the dark. Now they learn why they fear the night.”

A pair of Ron Cobb Hand-Drawn Hykanian Feast and hut designs from the production of John Milius’ 1982 adventure fantasy Conan the Barbarian.

A young boy, Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger), becomes a slave after his parents are killed and tribe destroyed by a savage warlord and sorcerer, Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones). When he grows up he becomes a fearless, invincible fighter. Set free, he plots revenge against Thulsa Doom.

Drawings were used for concepts and design references before and throughout the production. There are two pieces of paper each with a Ron Cobb hand-drawn artwork. They depict designs for the “Hykanian Feast” and a hut. The artworks show minimal wear from production use, the larger of the two artworks has been folded and there are light marks on the backs of each.
