Visual effects pioneer Larry Albright's diploma from the production of Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Production custom-made and gifted this diploma to Albright - the designer of the now-iconic musically-responsive neon lights inside the alien Mothership, and later an effects artist on such classics as Star Trek: The Motion Picture, 1941, and Con Air - for his contributions to the film.

Printed on Columbia Pictures letterhead and placed inside a black vinyl binder labeled "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in gold-color cursive text, this diploma originated from the collection of Albright's wife Helen. It is dated "September 1977" - two months before the film's release - and signed in ink by Spielberg, special photographic effects legend Douglas Trumbull, producers Julia and Michael Phillips, and Columbia Pictures executive in charge of production John Veitch (whose name is misspelled "Veitsch" on the diploma). The paper exhibits some yellowing from age and the binder's spine is creased from handling. Dimensions: 9.5" x 7.5" (24.25 cm x 19.25 cm)
