Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII's (Richard O'Sullivan) screen-matched headdress from Joseph L. Mankiewicz's historical epic Cleopatra. Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII wore his headdress when he first met Julius Caesar (Rex Harrison). It matches the one seen in the scene through distinctive creases and dents down each lappet.

At the time of its release, Cleopatra was the most expensive film ever made. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won four, including Best Costume Design.

The headdress is made of fabric and leather, with foam padding inside the dome. It is painted gold and black, and is decorated with a metal snake on the forehead. It has become slightly discoloured over time and shows signs of repair, most notably at the tips of the lappets, which have been re-glued.

Additional Provenance: This lot comes from the archives of the famed Italian costume company Costumi d'Arte. The company has been supplying some of the biggest film productions in the world with costumes for over 100 years.

Estimate: £5,000 - 10,000 Ω
