A hand-drawn and painted concept artwork by production designer John DeCuir from Joseph L. Mankiewicz's historical epic Cleopatra. This lot comes from the collection of British film designer Terry Ackland-Snow, who served as art director or production designer on more than 80 films, beginning with The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), and notably including Batman, Jim Henson's Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, Superman II, and Aliens.
DeCuir's distinguished career included Academy Award-winning work on The King and I (1956), Cleopatra (1963), and Hello, Dolly! (1969). He was nominated for 11 Oscars in total and also served as production designer on Ghostbusters.
This artwork depicts the interior of Julius Caesar's (Rex Harrison) apartment. It is executed on thick cardstock and shows some wear from age and storage, particularly around the edges and corners, which are creased and crumpled.Dimensions: 65 cm x 102 cm (25.5" x 40.25")

Terry Ackland-Snow is a British film designer who has worked in the Film and Television industry for over 50 years, beginning his career at the age of just 18 in the art department at Danziga Studios in Elstree. He has since featured as an art director or production designer for more than 80 films, going back to the Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1975, most notably working on Jim Henson's Labyrinth and The Great Muppet Caper, as well as Superman II, Tim Burton's Batman, and Aliens.
Since retiring in 2001, he has turned his hand to teaching, applying the wealth of knowledge and experience he has amassed to Art Direction training courses, with the aim of giving back to the industry he is so passionate about.
