A full-size harpy creature used in the production of the 2010 reboot of Clash of the Titans. Zeus (Liam Neeson), king of the Gods, is tricked into sending his downtrodden brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes) to Earth to make the mortals fearful of the Gods’ power – never reckoning on the intervention of demi-god Perseus (Sam Worthington) as he fights to save Andromeda (Alexa Davalos), princess of Argos.
This creature was one of the legion of abominations sent by Hades to bring Argos to its knees as he releases the Kraken upon the beleaguered city. Returning on the winged horse Pegasus to try and save Andromeda, Perseus battled many of these creatures high above the city before vanquishing the Kraken, allowing Zeus to regain control of Olympus. The creators of the film used a blend of CGI and practical effects for the scenes as the harpies rampage through Argos, making the monsters appear as life-like as possible when seen on screen.
This elaborate full-size creature is built around an articulated fibreglass skeleton, reinforced with metal rods and bolts, with a cast silicon skin applied around it. The creature features a body thick with muscle, clawed hands and feet and a terrifying maw filled with sharp resin teeth. Connectors for the wings are present by the creature's shoulders, which also have a metal hook present for hanging the beast during filming. The skin is finished with a dark grey pallor with intricate patterning to help make the flesh of the creatures incredibly life-like. The creature’s lower right leg has been snapped and severed as part of an effect, revealing torn skin, flesh and the skeleton beneath.
Besides the intentional damage to the leg and some minor tears to the creature's skin, this massive beast remains in overall good production-used condition, measuring 200cm x 70cm x 35cm (78.75" x 27.5" x 13.75").
