A Ray Harryhausen hand-drawn sketch of the Kraken and Andromeda (Judi Bowker) from the production of Desmond Davis' epic fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans. This lot comes from Harryhausen's personal collection.
The sketch depicts the Kraken looming over Princess Andromeda. The sketch was initially drawn by Harryhausen, though unusually the final piece of concept art was completed by artist Cathy Hill under Harryhausen's supervision. In the margins of the image Harryhausen has drawn small, rough sketches, and written "John Martin". Martin's vast, epic paintings were a source of inspiration for Harryhausen throughout his career. This lot comes from the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, a collection of over 50,000 items from the long and illustrious career of special effects and animation legend Ray Harryhausen. Proceeds from this auction will assist with the Foundation's future projects, including the ongoing preservation of Harryhausen's creature collection.
