A Dioskilos test casting by Ray Harryhausen from the production of Desmond Davis' epic fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans. Dioskilos, a two-headed dog, was Medusa's guardian, and it attacked Perseus (Harry Hamlin) and his men, before Perseus stabbed the beast in both necks and then its stomach, finishing it off. This lot comes from Harryhausen's personal collection.

Made by Harryhausen in 1978, this hollow, hard rubber test casting came from the original Dioskilos mould, making it identical to the sculpt for the final animation model. It has been given a protective coating by the Archive to preserve it from light and the atmosphere. This model has some wear from age and use, including discolouration and staining. Dimensions: 33 cm x 8.5 cm x 20 cm (13" x 3.25" x 7.75")

Additional provenance:

This lot comes from the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, a collection of items from the long and illustrious career of special effects and animation legend Ray Harryhausen. Proceeds from this auction will assist with the Foundation's future projects, including the ongoing preservation of Harryhausen's creature collection.
