An early wax sculpt of Medusa by Ray Harryhausen from the production of Desmond Davis' epic fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans. The Gorgon Medusa could turn any living being into stone with her gaze, and Perseus (Harry Hamlin) needed her head to defeat the Kraken. This lot comes from Harryhausen's personal collection.

This hollow purple wax head was personally designed and sculpted by Harryhausen during pre-production on the film in 1978, as a template for the final stop-motion model.

The head has some minor wear from age and use, most notably some discolouration and staining on the top and the back.

Dimensions: 21 cm x 17.5 cm x 12 cm (8.25" x 7" x 4.75")

This lot comes from the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, a collection of items from the long and illustrious career of special effects and animation legend Ray Harryhausen. Proceeds from this auction will assist with the Foundation's future projects, including the ongoing preservation of Harryhausen's creature collection.
