Krank's (Daniel Emilfork) dream catcher machine from Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 1995 fantasy film The City of Lost Children.

The large stature and striking design of this piece make for a rare, intriguing item that will appeal to fans and collectors of steampunk memorabilia, metal sculpture and film artefacts alike.

The machine is built around a large metal frame defined by a semi-cog type structure, with wood, metal and fibreglass dressing components. Its steampunk appearance is enhanced by ornate wheels, bars and metal details, including a mechanism at the side for opening the doors.

The device is lined with green upholstery and leather straps for the feet to hold the subject in place during the arduous process of dream extraction. A headrest with matching upholstery is secured at the rear. Above this is an intricate metal structure.

Subjects were enclosed behind the two panelled glass doors in a tube-like structure that ends in a copper-coloured, inverted metal dome – the feet resting on top of a green padded footrest.

The piece has been styled and distressed for production to appear old and well-used. Scratches, chips and dust are present across the exterior, with wear to the interior and fabric elements. Minor corrosion can be seen on the metal components throughout.
