These are Chuck Noland’s (Tom Hanks) special effects legs from the 1997 film Cast Away. In the film, Noland is stranded on an island; he tries to get away on a small raft but is flipped and his leg is impaled on a jagged piece of coral. This leg set is the prop made for the shot in which the coral enters his leg and blood squirts out of the wound.
Made of silicone crafted over a hollow fiberglass shell, the legs are supported by heavy metal pipes sticking out of the top. There are also tubes sticking out of the top of the legs through which blood was pumped out of a gash in the thigh. The legs feature hand-punched hair and are covered in shorts and shirt duplicating those worn by Hanks in the film. This heavy piece measures about 72” (183cm) in length. The legs are in very good condition with some distressing and wear due to production use (see photos.) This piece will come with a signed letter of authenticity from Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. co-founders Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr, as well as a Prop Store Certificate of Authenticity.
