A hero sword used in the fantasy thriller film Byzantium. The film tells the story of Eleanor (Saoirse Ronan), a vampire who has lived as a teenager for two centuries with her mother, Clara (Gemma Arterton). Hunted by a vampire organisation called the Brotherhood, they hide in an English seaside town, where Eleanor falls for the dying Frank (Caleb Landry Jones).
This sword was used for the closing scenes of the film where the Brotherhood finally catch up with Clara and Eleanor. Ordered by Brotherhood chief Savella (Uri Gavriel) to execute Clara, the vampire Darvell (Sam Riley) betrays his leader, decapitating him on a fairground ride - much to Clara’s relief.

Made with an aluminium blade, the scimitar-style sword features an ornate grip and guard assembly made of powder-coated resin. The blade’s edges have been blunted to prevent injury through use on set. Covered in elaborate runes and stylised elephant designs, the guard’s protrusions are designed to look like elephant trunks. The grip has been given a bronze finish while the blade has been distressed to look worn an old – a relic of ancient Byzantium itself.

Featuring only minor wear and a scratch on the blade, the sword remains in very good condition.
