Buffy's retractable guitar stake used in Joss Whedon's 1992 film edition of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, starring Kristy Swanson as the ass-kicking slayer. Halfway through the movie high school nerd Pike (Luke Evans) encounters a trio of troublesome vampires who pursue him until Buffy rolls up to dispatch them, using Pike's broken guitar neck as a makeshift wooden stake to plunge through the vamp's heart. This was used for the 'stab' action itself, the prop seen on screen even has some of the white resin showing where the retractable section is pulled too far out, just like the version presented here.
Made from resin the prop is painted dark brown with wood grain decoration, frets and even plastic strings. The pointed end of the stake retracts up into the main body, sadly the spring mechanism has since stopped working and must be pulled back out by hand. It comes presented in a great display with laser cut mount board featuring the movie title and stills. The prop measures 47cm (18.5”) long and in a well used condition with two missing tuning pegs, surface scuffs and some minor chips, the gothic opening display measures 48cm 68cm (19“ x 26.75“).
