This extremely rare French poster seldom comes to auction, and we believe this is one of the very few copies that still exist.

This stunning poster, from only the fourth film directed by David Lean, is folded and shows some edge wear, including tiny tears along the upper border. There is general wear from the folds, with some separation at the crossfolds, as well as a few small stains in the upper left corner of the credits area. The colors remain fresh and vibrant. This unrestored poster, representing one of the most acclaimed British films, would be a prized addition to any collection.

David Lean directed Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard in the poignant tale of a doomed love affair between a married doctor and a suburban housewife. Their chance meeting on a train platform in post-war London sets the stage for this beautiful yet tragic story. Adapted by Noel Coward from his play "Still Life," "Brief Encounter" was met with widespread critical acclaim upon its release. The film received three Academy Award nominations: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actress for Johnson. Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 was used effectively in the soundtrack, enhancing the emotional impact of the film.
