Dr. Reinhardt's (Maximilian Schell) Costume from Gary Nelson’s 1979 family sci-fi adventure, The Black Hole. The movie follows a research vessel which finds a missing ship, commanded by a mysterious scientist, on the edge of a black hole. This uniform was worn by Dr. Reinhardt and can be seen throughout the film.
This uniform includes jacket and pants and is made from a heavy wool and polyester blend, with a satin lining. The jacket zips up the front and has a Velcro flap. The Mandarin style collar and shoulder epaulets are made from dark burgundy velour. The front of the collar also features Velcro attachments where Dr. Reinhardt’s medal was previously attached. The pants are made from a matching wool and polyester blend, with the burgundy velour stripe down going down the pant leg. The pants also have elastic suspenders sewn in, as well as hooks at the ankle to affix to the inside of the actor’s boots.Both the jacket and the pants include Western Costume Company labels for Max Schell.
This costume has some wear due to production use and age, including loose stitches and missing buttons, but remains in overall good used condition.
