This is one of only three or four known examples of this rare and historic poster. Discovered in an estate in South Texas, the poster was purchased at a country auction and brought to market.

Griffith's epic and highly controversial drama about the Civil War and Reconstruction captures the moment John Wilkes Booth leaps from the Presidential Box onto the stage of Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., after shooting Abraham Lincoln. This remarkable poster has been professionally linen-backed, with expert touch-ups made to address general fold wear, border chips, and repairs to one of the stars in the American flag.

"The Birth of a Nation" is regarded as one of the most controversial yet influential films of the early twentieth century. The film introduced significant innovations and artistic achievements in cinema that shaped future feature films. Upon its release, the surrounding controversy contributed to its box-office success, allowing it to gross $18 million, making it the highest-grossing film until "Gone With the Wind" was released. Based on Rev. Thomas Dixon Jr.'s 1905 melodrama, "The Clansman," the film remains significant despite its explicit racism and contentious themes.
