A Gorilla Warrior Shirt and Vest worn in Ted Post's 1970 sci-fi sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes. When Brent (James Franciscus) crashes on Earth, he discovers the surface is overrun by apes, while a band of mutants with psychic powers live below ground in a forgotten city. Costumes of this style can be seen worn throughout the film by warrior gorillas.
This set includes a black leather vest and a purple colored shirt. The vest features a leather exterior with an interior cotton lining, and seals in front with nine snap buttons, a hook and bar closure, and a hidden zipper. Both the front and the back of the vest exhibit horizontal ribs with eight on the front and four on the back. Stitched to the lining on the back is a production wardrobe tag from Wester Costume Co. which notes the chest size (38). Paired with the vest is a long sleeve purple shirt that is made from a cotton material and includes both a zipper closure and a wardrobe tag at the neck which notes the chest size (38) and the sleeve (18).
This costume features some wear due to production use and age, including fading to the colors on both articles, as well as some scuffs to the leather, however the pair remain in remarkably good condition.
