An Ovion mask and costume pieces from the sci-fi television series Battlestar Galactica.

The Ovion were a race of four-armed insectoid aliens, and were part of the Cylon Empire. The collection consists of a mask, five hands, two leg pieces, two feet, two tail pieces, two abdominal pieces and one wrist piece. The lot is also accompanied by four behind-the-scenes production photos showing an Ovion costume being made and modelled.

The mask, hand and feet are all made of foam rubber and hand-painted. The mask is presented on a flock head and features two bulbous eyes, two antennae and metal mandibles protruding from the mouth. The mandibles would have moved while on set, and remnants of cabling protrude the rear of the mask near a hidden Velcro® fastening.

One of the hands is a production back-up and less detailed than the others, while another features a metal screw fitting, indicating it was one of the Ovion's abdominal arms. The tail, abdominal, leg and wrist pieces are all resin and also hand-painted. The pieces display wear from production use and age. The mandibles on the mask have rusted and there are scuffs and scratches on each costume piece. There are adhesive remnants on the tail pieces and parts of the tail have broken off. The photos have some water damage. Overall, considering the age of the items, they remain in an excellent condition.
