The Batman arrived in 2004 with a job to do: take the most adapted superhero in animation and make him feel new again. Jeff Matsuda's redesigns gave the show its identity, a sharper, more angular Gotham built on his character work from Jackie Chan Adventures, and the series went on to win six Daytime Emmys across its run. This is Batman himself, drawn in a full open-armed action pose with the radiating speed lines that mark him out as the dead centre of the shot.

It is the original production drawing, the graphite stage where the figure is worked out before anything goes to colour. You can see the layout decisions in the build of the body, the pencil construction under the cape and cowl, the red accent lines marking where the contour and shadow breaks fall for digital ink and paint. This is the hand-drawn foundation of a frame.

The drawing features the autographs of both Rino Romano, who voiced Bruce Wayne and Batman across the whole series, and Glen Murakami, a key creative force behind Warner Bros.' run of DC animated shows. Two names tied directly to the production, on the artwork itself.

Done in pencil with red and blue accent lines, 12-field sheet, bottom peg holes intact, with the Clampett Studio Collections seal and accompanying Certificate of Authenticity confirming the signatures and the IFA 2390 Warner Bros. identification number.
