Robin's costume from Batman & Robin. After taking on the role of Batman's partner in the fight against crime in Gotham City, Robin updated his costume with a new look that he wore when the dynamic duo first took on Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy.
This primarily dark blue costume consists of a black neoprene and dark blue foam-latex bodysuit with a zippered back and the updated Robin emblem, a red bird symbol, on the chest; a urethane domino mask; a separate collar piece; a latex cape; a urethane and nylon belt with a buckle featuring the updated Robin insignia; black leather and polyurethane gloves with red stripes and resin fins; and a pair of black leather and polyurethane boots. The interior of the chest piece is marked with the principal performer's initials as well as "R-15" and "H."
Some areas of the foam latex costume have hardened or deteriorated due to age; sympathetic restoration and stabilization has been undertaken to improve the aesthetic and stabilize the piece. The restoration was performed in a sympathetic manner only where necessary and involved patching the foam latex and paint-blending the repaired area. The specific areas affected were the upper chest and collar area near where the cape attaches (usually hidden by the cape and neck piece), the tops of the shoulders, the left nipple, the upper back, the edges of the biceps, and the lower edges of the upper leg armor. The rest of the costume remains in good overall condition, with minor signs of wear and age, including drying and cracking along the edges of the cape. This costume is currently dressed on a mannequin for display; the mannequin will be included.
