A penguin rocket missile with production-made Gotham Public Works emblem from Tim Burton's Batman Returns. After his plan to kidnap the firstborns of Gotham was thwarted by Batman (Michael Keaton), supervillain The Penguin (Danny De Vito) delivered his inspirational speech to the crowd of rocket-clad penguins and then released them to attack Gotham City as revenge. Vehicles, city spaces, and public events serviced by the Gotham Public Works appeared throughout downtown Gotham, including when Oswald Cobblepot (Danny DeVito) interrupted two attempts to light the tree and later incited a riot outside Gotham City Hall.
This lot originates from Planet Hollywood. The rocket missile is made of hollow cardboard featuring a spiral pattern with resin fins and clamps affixed to the outside. Created for the downtown set but ultimately unseen in the final cut of the film, this gear-shaped cast resin emblem is hand-painted to resemble patinaed metal. It features the embossed "Gotham Public Works" around an insignia of a laborer. This lot shows a missing rocket tip, a missing fin, notable glue residue, and exposed cardboard, in addition to wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age.
