The Penguin's (Danny DeVito) top hat and vest from Tim Burton's Batman Returns. The Penguin wore his signature top hat and vest in numerous scenes as part of his "respectable" guise as Oswald Cobblepot, mayoral candidate of Gotham City, including when Batman (Michael Keaton) confronted him about cheating in the mayoral race with the Red Triangle Gang.

Batman Returns broke several box-office records and was nominated for 11 awards, including Academy Award® nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Makeup, as well as Saturn Award®, Awards Circuit Community Award®, and 20/20 Award® nominations for Bob Ringwood, Mary E. Vogt, and Vin Burnham's costume designs.

This lot consists of a black felt top hat lined with cream-color silk and finished with a black silk hatband and bow, as well as a gold-color polyester-satin blend vest with motifs on the front and pinstripes on the lining. Seams along the back and shoulders of the vest where fastening strips were previously applied are stitched together by production. The vest also exhibits staining to its lining, while the hat exhibits loose silk threads and stains along its interior from production wear.
