A collection of six original storyboard panels from Balto, the beloved animated feature produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblimation Studio.
Set during the 1925 diphtheria outbreak, Balto tells the story of a misunderstood wolfdog (voiced by Kevin Bacon) who overcomes prejudice and risk to lead a lifesaving mission delivering medicine to the snowbound town of Nome, Alaska. The film combines fact and fiction, built around the true events of the "Great Serum Run," in which sledge dogs transported antitoxin through brutal winter conditions. Balto's leadership and success cemented his legacy. He was celebrated and later immortalised by this 1995 film and a bronze statue in New York's Central Park.
This set comes from the heart of the film's production process, drawn at Amblimation's London-based studio. Balto was the final project completed by the studio before its team transitioned into DreamWorks, marking the end of an era of hand-crafted, emotionally rich feature animation.
These are original working drawings created during the pre-production process. Their expressive poses, directional arrows, and scene pacing speak to the narrative function of the storyboard department, helping shape the final animation's tone, composition, and emotion. Each panel is individually numbered and hand-drawn in graphite with light blue pencil underdrawing, capturing a key sequence from the film's dramatic arc.
