Marty McFly's (Michael J. Fox) screen-matched 2015 jacket from Robert Zemeckis' sci-fi adventure sequel Back to the Future Part II. Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) took Marty to the year 2015 and gave him a futuristic ensemble to help him blend in, including a self-drying, auto-resizing jacket. The placement of the rubber nodules on the chest match the jacket to the scene in which Marty and Doc return to their car, only to find that the police have discovered Jennifer's (Elisabeth Shue) unconscious body.
Custom-made for the production, the 'high tech' garment is made from red nodule textured rubber, with several dark grey and black components made from a combination of latex, urethane and foam. Two square-shaped pockets with short flaps adorn the front, and the jacket features a stand-up collar. The sleeves are gathered at the top and halfway down, suggesting this version was worn after the auto-resizing function was activated. Two static red buttons are located on the front of the ribbed waistband.
This particular jacket has been sympathetically restored by Tom Spina Designs Inc. Over time the materials had stiffened, requiring the Tom Spina team to repair several cracks and apply paint touch-ups. They also added three inserts into the chest and sleeves to help the jacket maintain its shape.
The lot is mounted on a custom-built padded display, with an angled wooden stand situated at the back. It exhibits signs of wear and damage due to the fragile nature of the materials, including small holes and cracks on the sleeves. Due to the fragile nature of the jacket, it should be handled with care. Dimensions (displayed): 69 cm x 123 cm x 17.5 cm (27.25" x 48.5" x 7")
