A screen- and photo-matched full-size 2015 Hill Valley surfboard from Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future Part II. When he arrived in his hometown, Hill Valley, in 2015, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) crossed paths with a man carrying this style of futuristic surfboard. Distinctive streaking and paint patterning on this board screen-match to the scene. Additionally, the board photo-matches to a still from behind-the-scenes of the production.
During pre-production, the film's product research coordinator, Mark Snovell, approached Rusty Surfboards founder Rusty Preisendorfer about featuring high-tech Rusty Surfboards products in the future Hill Valley. Upon Preisendorfer's approval, renowned custom surfboard maker John "JC" Carper constructed non-surfable versions for the film incorporating found household materials and inspired by designs for World War II-era fighter jets.
This is believed to be the one-and-only surfboard of this specific style created for the film. Rusty logos also later appeared as graffiti on the walls of Hill Valley, demonstrating that the company remained a recognizable and popular element in Zemeckis' depiction of 2015-era popular culture.
This distinctive, full-size, dual-finned Rusty board is constructed from fiberglass and foam with cast resin, aluminum, and rubber components inset on the underside, including static mechanical tubing, vents, and twin Rusty-branded engines affixed with repurposed shower heads. Both sides are applied with the Rusty "R" logo. It exhibits fractures to its nose, side, and underside paneling, and grime and adhesive residue stains throughout from production use and age. Dimensions: 74.5" x 19.25" x 7.5" (189.25 cm x 49 cm x 19 cm)
