Marty McFly's (Michael J. Fox) hoverboard from Robert Zemeckis' sci-fi film Back to the Future: Part II and its sequel, Part III. McFly first obtained his hoverboard from a young girl in the year 2015 to escape from Griff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson) and his gang, and continued to use it throughout both films. The hoverboard became McFly's signature and remains among the most beloved hi-tech innovations associated with the franchise.
Two primary styles of hoverboards were made for production: wood boards for effects work, including shots of the actor riding the board, and lightweight foam boards typically used for shots of the performer carrying the board. This hoverboard - a rare complete and "fresh-to-market" example originating with a production team member - is constructed primarily of rigid lightweight foam, painted pink, and given a photo-print finish on the top and bottom (as opposed to the lenticular print used on some boards).
The top features the word "HOVERBOARD," Mattel logos, foot-pad and fuzzy pink foot-strap (which are frequently missing from Mattel board props), zig-zagging pink and green fastening strips, and a hole in the front from where Marty would have removed the handle. The bottom features plastic detailing including two silver-colour hover pads.
This hoverboard exhibits wear from use and age, including adhesive residue around the fastening strips, cracks in the foam, and paint chipping throughout with the most extensive paint chipping around the hover pads. Dimensions: 71.25 cm x 21.75 cm x 6.5 cm (28" x 8.5" x 2.5")
Estimate: £60,000 - 100,000 Ω
