An Ibanez Artcore AS73 guitar autographed by the cast of Robert Zemeckis' film Back to the Future. This cherry red Ibanez Artcore AS73 is a semi-hollow body electric guitar, much like the visually-similar cherry red 1958 Gibson ES-345 that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) played during the "Enchantment Under the Sea" dance in the film.
As the highest grossing film of 1985, Back to the Future remains a popular cinematic touchstone with an extensive cultural legacy. Upon release, it received four nominations for the 43rd Golden Globe® awards and five nominations for the 39th British Academy Film Awards®; won three awards at the 13th Saturn Awards®; and received a prestigious Hugo Award® for Best Dramatic Presentation. In 2007, BTTF was selected by the United States Library of Congress for preservation for being culturally significant. The New York Times also singled out Back to the Future as one of the 1,000 Best Movies Ever in 2004.
This lot consists of a Ibanez Artcore guitar, AS73-TCD 5B-03 in Transparent Cherry Red, signed in silver-color ink with character names by actors Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Thomas Wilson, Lea Thompson, Claudia Wells, James Tolkan, Donald Fullilove, and Harry Waters, Jr. The guitar shows minimal evidence of wear from handling.
