Celtic's (Ian Whyte) death scene bio-mask from Paul W. S. Anderson's sci-fi action crossover AVP: Alien vs. Predator. Celtic, the leader of the three young Yautja Predators featured in the film, wore his bio-mask while hunting Xenomorphs in an ancient pyramid deep beneath the icy surface of Antarctica until he was killed by the Xenomorph known as Grid (Tom Woodruff Jr.).
Legendary special makeup effects creator and four-time Academy Award-winner Stan Winston conceived the original design for the Predator when working on John McTiernan's sci-fi classic Predator. His legacy was continued by his former collaborators, Alex Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr., who created a wide array of alien creatures alongside the talented artists of Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc.
This fiberglass helmet features a weathered metallic gray paint exterior with mechanical details sculpted throughout. For Celtic's death scene, the helmet was intentionally distressed by production with deep scratch marks across the face and a hole in the forehead through which the xenomorph's inner jaw plunged into Celtic's head, killing him. The underside of the mask has unpainted epoxy reinforcements behind where the scratches and hole were added; as well as fastening strips to attach the mask to the Predator head. In addition to the intentional production distressing, this lot shows evidence of wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age; including some cracking around the edges.
