Dr. Evil's (Mike Myers) suit from Jay Roach's Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Dr. Evil wore his signature grey Nehru-style suit throughout the film, including during his memorable confrontation with his son Scott (Seth Green) as well as his audacious attempt to blackmail the United Nations for $100 billion.
International Man of Mystery's popularity - particularly on home video and cable television - launched the globally-successful Austin Powers franchise and introduced Dr. Evil, with his litany of catchphrases and Lorne Michaels-inspired pinky gesture, into popular culture. Inspired by Ernst Stavro Blofeld from the James Bond films, Dr. Evil's minimalist costume became synonymous with the character and appeared in all three films in the franchise.
This suit originates from the 1999 AOL & New Line Cinema auction. It consists of a bespoke grey polyester-wool suit jacket with a hidden zipper down the front, "M. Myers" labelled on the interior, and a seam pocket on the right-hand side, a feature exclusively seen in the first Austin Powers film, as well as a pair of matching grey polyester-wool trousers.
Also included is a colour-printed promotional photograph of Dr. Evil in his signature grey suit. The jacket's collar exhibits flesh-tone discolouration on the interior from Dr. Evil's makeup, while the trousers exhibit some loose threads commensurate with age and wear.
Additional Provenance: A Letter of Authenticity from New Line Cinema signed by Executive Vice President Jim Rosenthal.
Estimate: £20,000 - 40,000 Ω
