Dr. Evil's (Mike Myers) "Hard Knock Life" Toronto Maple Leafs costume components from from Jay Roach's Austin Powers in Goldmember. Dr. Evil and his clone, Mini-Me (Verne Troyer), sang a parodical remix of Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)" - a 1998 song which sampled the classic showstopper "It's the Hard Knock Life" from the musical Annie - while doing time for the crimes they committed in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.
As a tongue-in-cheek reference to real-world Canadian Myers' favorite hockey team, Dr. Evil wore his Toronto Maple Leafs jersey in the extended music video for "Hard Knock Life" which was later included in the film's DVD and Blu-Ray special features. The song was also featured on the film's original soundtrack, which set a worldwide streaming record of 1.35 million streams on AOL prior to its commercial release.
This lot consists of a cotton M.J. Soffe long-sleeve turtleneck (size X-large); a polyester blend CCM "Toronto Maple Leafs" jersey; and a fabric blend Reebok "doo-rag." Included with this lot is an original handwritten costumiers label detailing the complete costume’s components. The jersey shows evidence of wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age.
