Tony Mendez’s (Ben Affleck) hero CIA ID from Ben Affleck’s 2012 Oscar©-winning thriller Argo.

Based on a true story from the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979, the CIA launch an audacious and dangerous operation to rescue six American diplomats in Tehran by getting them to pose as a Canadian film crew scouting locations for a film.

This ID was made for the film and was worn by Affleck as Mendez in the scenes at the CIA when he and his colleagues are developing their plan for freeing the diplomats. The ID features a picture of Affleck as Mendez in a suit and tie alongside the character’s name and the logo of the CIA. It also features his staff number and on the reverse it explains that the person on the ID is an agent of the CIA and it is an offence to impersonate an agent.

The ID is laminated and has a metal clip so it can be attached to a jacket pocket, which is how Mendez wears it in the film. The item shows minimal wear from production use and storage, and remains in an excellent condition.
