Francis Ashby (Michael Palin) is a Victorian-era Oxford instructor who takes a trip to Switzerland, where he befriends vacationing American Caroline Hartley (Connie Booth) and her teenage daughter, Elinor (Trini Alvarado). Both women are romantically interested in Francis, and when he returns to campus, the Hartleys follow him back and move into a nearby home to pursue him. Unfortunately, university professors are forbidden to marry, and Francis must choose between love and his career.
This item is a folder full of production details and insights. There are pages of the screenplay intermingled with double-sided plastic wallets displaying pages of continuity photos. These photos show the cast (Michael Palin, Connie Booth and Alfred Molina) in their costumes and in set-dressed rooms on location.
The front two pages are call-sheets, giving an insight into the production’s schedule and the minutiae of the crew and cast’s day, even down to inviting the crew to come and watch the World Cup as an apology for some accommodation mix-ups.
This item consists of 163 pages (single-sided and double-sided), a mixture of screenplay sides and continuity photos. They are all held together in a black lever-arch file, with ‘AMERICAN FRIENDS CONTINUITY SCRIPT’ on the spine. This piece shows signs of production use but nonetheless is in very good condition.
