A light-up replica of Thomas Kane's (John Hurt) spacesuit from Ridley Scott's Alien. Kane, executive officer of the USCSS Nostromo, wore his spacesuit to explore LV-426 in response to a mysterious signal emanating from it.
Kane's and the crews' spacesuits were created by renowned costume designer John Mollo with design assistance from legendary French concept artist Moebius, aka Jean Giraud. This rare, high-quality replica - one of only a handful made - was constructed using several of the original film spacesuits as both references and molds.
The helmet was molded directly from the original Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) helmet - which was originally Lambert's (Veronica Cartwright), before being painted white for the end scenes - in Alien archivist Bob Burns' collection. Inside the helmet is a rare WW2-era RAF D flying helmet of the style worn by Hurt. The chest plates, chest box, and wrist communicators were directly molded from an original Kane (John Hurt) spacesuit, also in Burns' collection. The backpack and shoulder pauldrons were created using another original suit in a private collection.
The fabric sections, including the lacing, were made using the same materials that the original, screen-used suits were. All the hard armor parts were made using the cold-cast process in the fiberglass, with copper and bronze metal powders added, just like the original suits on the production. They were buffed to a metallic shine, aged, and patinated. The helmet and armor feature brass-etched details and insignia matching the Ripley/Lambert helmet. These were scanned from the original helmet then laser cut.
The spacesuit is accompanied by a replica of the pistol carried by Kane in the Director's Cut. The helmet, backpack and wrist communicators feature light-up LEDs. A switch on the backpack starts a fan inside feeding to the back of the helmet to circulate air. The left-side visor panel is intentionally absent to match the one on the film, as Sigourney Weaver requested it be removed from the helmet for the final scenes to prevent her helmet from fogging up. The suit is displayed on a custom-made mannequin and base. Dimensions: 80.75" x 30.75" x 23.5" (205 cm x 78 cm x 60 cm)
