Julie's (Kellie Bright) Union Jack costume from Mark Mylod’s 2002 comedy Ali G Indahouse
Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) unwittingly becomes a pawn in the Chancellor's (Charles Dance) plot to overthrow the Prime Minister of Great Britain (Michael Gambon). However, Ali is embraced by the nation as a voice of the youth, making the PM and his government more popular than ever.
This is a production-used costume from the film. Julie (Kellie Bright) is seen wearing her Union Jack costume and dancing in the final scenes of the film, set in the Jamaican embassy. She is seen more closely in it when it looks as if Ali G is about to propose to her, but instead asks for permission to ‘shag’ a member of Mis-Teeq.
This item consists of a vest top and a skirt, both from Topshop. The top is covered with sequins in the pattern of a Union Jack on the front only, with fabric on the back. There is some discolouration to the sequins under the arms. The length of the top has been altered, with 5cm of the hem folded back and kept in place with a loose running stitch. The care label has been cut out. The skirt is a size 8, unlined, has a zip at the back and no care label. The costume remains in a good condition.
