A reference map book used for the production of George Nolfi’s 2011 romantic sci-fi film, The Adjustment Bureau.

Based on the book by Philip K Dick, the story follows aspiring American politician David Norris (Matt Damon) as his life is turned upside down by the revelation of a supernatural group of “Adjusters” who are intent on keeping David from the love of his life – carefree ballerina Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt).

This brown leather-effect bounded book entitled ‘Modern Timber Engineering’ by W. Fleming Scofield and W. H. O’Brien was the main inspiration of the Adjuster’s ledgers in the film. These ledgers are used by the Adjusters to track time and movement. When the books are opened, they feature a moving map of the people and scenarios that the Adjusters are monitoring. Through these maps, they can alter fate and outcomes. The illustrations inside the book are reminiscent of what is seen on screen, and were the main inspiration to the maps in the ledgers.

This fourth edition version of the book was printed in 1954. The title is printed in gold on the front and spine and shows only minimal colour fading. There is very minor fading on the spine crease with slight scuffs along the corners. It remains in very good condition considering its age and use.
