A Spartan ensemble with a screen-matched shield from Zack Snyder's historical action epic 300. Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, in which 300 Spartans fought to the death against a massive Persian army. The shield in this lot screen-matches in the grenade attack sequence by its dents and battle-damage.
The ensemble comprises a fibreglass helmet (internally inscribed "Ryan Watson"); a fibreglass shield with a biscuit-foam core (twice labelled "Hero #10 Stage 2" on reverse side); a wooden spear with a urethane spear tip; a rubber sword with a leather scabbard; a pair of leather sandals; a red heavy cotton cloak featuring leather strapping (with "39 Doug Chapman Guillermo Grispo #1" inscribed on the reverse side); a leather codpiece; a pair of urethane greaves and a pair of urethane bracers (all inscribed "James Michalopolous" on their reverse sides, with "Dilios" also on the greaves). All of the inscriptions are rendered in black marker, except the helmet, on which silver marker was used. Watson, Chapman, Grispo and Michalopolous are all credited stuntmen on the production.
The armour pieces are finished to replicate a worn, hammered bronze look, with battle damage applied to the helmet, bracers, greaves and shield. The ensemble is displayed on a custom-built mannequin, which secures the shield and spear with tough nylon straps. Dimensions: 45 cm x 95 cm x 238 cm (17.75" x 37.5" x 93.75")
