A pair of previously unseen behind-the-scenes photographs from the production of Stanley Kubrick's sci-fi masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey. This lot comes from the personal collection of renowned stills photographer Keith Hamshere.
These two images, printed for the very first time by the photographer, depict the filming of the scene in HAL's processor core. One features Kubrick in a thoughtful pose, standing inside HAL. The other depicts Keir Dullea as Dr. Dave Bowman in his spacesuit, apparently floating over the same set. Hamshere believes that neither picture had ever been seen publicly in the 56 years since the production, making this an incredibly rare opportunity to own a unique piece of sci-fi history. The photograph of Kubrick can now be seen in Hamshere's book of his career - "Life Through an Aperture: The Films and Photography of Keith Hamshere" - published in October 2024.
Each photograph is printed on Epson Premium Luster paper, and is signed by Hamshere, with "Photograph: Keith Hamshere" printed in the bottom right corner. Dimensions (each): 48.5 cm x 33 cm (19" x 13")
Sold without copyright; see copyright notice in the Buyer's Guide.
