Captain Wild Bill Kelso's (John Belushi) Curtiss P-40 Warhawk airplane model miniature from Steven Spielberg's 1941. United States Army Air Forces Captain Kelso piloted his Curtiss P-40 Warhawk plane, with its custom sharkmouth design, as he sought out Japanese forces inland. Eventually, seeing anti-aircraft batteries firing on a plane, Kelso also pursued it, shot it down, and then was also fired upon for being mistaken for a Japanese fighter plane in the darkness. While the early scenes during the daytime utilized a real airplane, the later Hollywood street scenes at night used model miniature effects.
This model miniature originates from Planet Hollywood. Made of resin with a plastic cockpit canopy, it features painted details, including multiple US Air Force National Star Insignias, a shark face on the nose, and painted canopy lines. It is mounted with a metal brace around the wings for display purposes and has undergone sympathetic restoration to reattach a wing. This lot shows wear consistent with handling and age.
