A prop mine from the 1961 classic film Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Numerous mines can be seen toward the end of the film as the crew of the atomic submarine suddenly find themselves heading straight for a minefield.
The sphere-shaped piece is made of Styrofoam painted brown and green with a rough, textured outer surface with a metal ring imbedded. The item has some wear and chipping due to production use and age, but remains in fair overall condition. The prop mine measures approximately 13” x 10” (33cm x 25cm) and has some wear, chipping due to production use and age (see photos) but remains in fair condition.
