Valkyrie

Mission Card and Relating Paperwork

Stock #69271

“I'd say the General's lost more important things this morning.”

A mission card, letter, envelope and duty card from the production of Bryan Singer's 2008 historical drama, Valkyrie.

Several officers in the German Army are opposed to the methods and ideology that Hitler has taken and feel it is incumbent on them to put an end to his reign of terror. Led by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise), they devise a plan to assassinate Hitler, assume control of the military and government, and negotiate a truce with the Allies to spare Germany from utter destruction.

Instruction letters and envelopes such as these appeared in numerous scenes, including each time a false drill was called by Stauffenberg and his team. The date and text on this page match the scene in which Hitler was pronounced still alive before the assembled German troops. The orange duty card was held by each person in scene where Stauffenberg stood before his coup staff as they held up cards, saying “We are reporting for duty”.

Printed on an A4 sheet of paper, the letter has been aged for production with a soft texture, small tears and a 1940s typeface. It bears red and blue ‘official’ Nazi stamps and the mark of the Fuhrer. The enclosing envelope features stiff card backing and ‘official’ military stamps of address with handwriting in red pencil.

The mission card is printed on an A5 piece of cream card with gold and black-coloured text, the Nazi eagle emblem and the printed ‘signature’ of Joseph Goebbels – it is marked as being from Goebbels’ propaganda office. The small orange duty card feature the letters ‘HOKW’ printed in black along with a black Nazi eagle emblem and ‘St’ handwritten in blue ink.

Each piece has been aged for and features marks and wear from use in production. However, they remain in good overall condition and make excellent collectors of war movie, Nazi-style and World War 2-type memorabilia.
