A special effects spear used in the adaptation of Homer’s great epic Troy, starring Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom and Eric Bana. After falling for the beautiful Helen (Diane Kruger), Trojan prince Paris (Orlando Bloom) smuggles her aboard the ship of his brother, Hector (Eric Bana) to take her to Troy. Seeking revenge, the Greek armies led by Agamemnon (Brian Cox) and the legendary warrior Achilles (Brad Pitt) set sail for Troy, where one of history’s greatest wars will be waged.
This spear was used by Eric Bana and Brad Pitt in the roles of Hector and Achilles. The two generals of the opposing armies fight to the death in front of the gates of Troy after Achilles’ cousin Patroclus (Garrett Hedlund) is killed by Hector’s hand. After his spear is snapped, Hector uses his sword and broken spearhead to try and bring down the legendary Greek warrior, only to be disarmed and to have the spearhead planted in his shoulder. Brought to his knees, the prince of Troy is felled by Achilles’ sword, before his body is dragged around the city’s walls.

Made of metal, the spear was designed with an internal mechanism for the spearhead, with fins that fold inward into a central cylinder which can then be forced into the main shaft of the spear. A spring forces the head back out once pressure on the head has been released. The spear is finished in a light wood effect along the main shaft with bronze for the head.

Well used on set, the spear has lost some of its paint finish through use, with aluminium shining through scratches along the spear’s shaft. The mechanism for the spear head, however, remains fully functional and besides the minor flaws in the paintwork the weapon remains in an otherwise good production-used condition, measuring 81cm (32”) in length.
