A folder of costume concept designs from Wolfgang Petersen’s 2004 adaptation of Homer’s great epic Troy.
After falling for the beautiful Helen (Diane Kruger), Trojan prince Paris (Orlando Bloom) smuggles her aboard the ship of his brother, Hector (Eric Bana) to take her to Troy. Seeking revenge, the Greek armies led by Agamemnon (Brian Cox) and the legendary warrior Achilles (Brad Pitt) set sail for Troy, where one of history’s greatest wars will be waged.
Costume designer Bob Ringwood – known for his work on films like Tim Burton’s Batman, Alien 3 and Demolition Man – kept folders of sketches, ideas and correspondence made during production. This set of costume concepts includes beautiful sepia-toned prints of full-body sketches made for principal characters like Achilles, King Agamemnon, Helen of Troy and various soldiers. Portrait-style images depict designs for crowns and helmets, and there are sketches of weapons including Achilles’ sword and shield. Ringwood has pages of Greek sculpture, pottery and metalwork that inspired his work, and there are pages laying out shooting schedules. Several emails, notes and letters are included, one mentioning Brad Pitt and how his armour design would help him visually dominate the battlefield.
Held in a black ring binder A4 folder, this fascinating collection of drawings and correspondence shows signs of wear from handling during production, but remains in very good overall condition.
